2023 Referendum: Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice

Australian voters will soon have their say in a referendum about whether we should change the Constitution to recognise the First Peoples of Australia by establishing a body called the Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice ('the Voice').

The Australian Government has announced that the referendum will be held on Saturday 14 October 2023.

We recognise the importance of listening respectfully to the views and needs of the local Aboriginal community, and that’s why we support the promotion of a ‘yes’ vote in the 2023 Referendum.

Before heading to the polls on Saturday, 14 October, we encourage our community to be informed about the importance of recognising the First Peoples of Australia by establishing an Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Voice.

Support for the 'yes' vote was resolved at the Council meeting on 3 April 2023. You can read the business papers from that meeting below:
