New Year's Eve 2024: Getting to the Event
Plan your trip to our New Year's Eve celebration in advance to make your journey as smooth as possible.
Road closures
There'll be several road closures in place around the harbour area that might affect how you get to the event.
Driving
If you’re planning to drive, we suggest you plan ahead as parking and roads can get busy on NYE. Parking may be limited so allow plenty of time.
Please note, if you park in the Flagstaff Hill or Marine Drive car parks, roads will not reopen until 10pm. Delays exiting the event precinct are expected.
We suggest using the Innovation Campus carpark as a park and ride option by hoping on the Free Gong Shuttle Bus.
Bus
On New Year’s Eve the Free Gong Shuttle Bus will keep running until 10.30pm. Just look for the Green 55A/55C bus.
Please note, due to road closures between 4pm - 10pm the Free Shuttle Bus will travel along Corrimal Street instead of Cliff Road.
If you plan to travel by bus to the event, we recommend you check the bus timetables below to plan your trip:
Changes to WIN Entertainment Centre and Burelli Street bus stops
To keep pedestrians safe at the end of our New Years Eve event, the following bus stops will be closed from 8pm – 10pm:
- Crown Street opposite WIN Entertainment Centre
- Crown Street at WIN Entertainment Centre
- Burelli Street at Harbour Street
- Burelli Street opposite Steelers Club.
The closest bus stops are a short 7 minute walk and located at:
- Burelli Street at Illawarra Performing Arts Centre
- Burelli Street at Wollongong City Council and Library.
Bus stop signs will be changed to advise people of these alternative bus stops from 8pm – 10pm.
Train
The closest train stations to the event area are either Wollongong Station or North Wollongong Station. Both train stations are about a 30-minute walk to Wollongong Harbour.
If you arrive by train to Wollongong Station or North Wollongong Station, you can also hop on the Free Gong Shuttle Bus to travel to the event.
Bike
Prefer to cycle? Riding a bike is a great way to travel to the event. Why not cycle along the Blue Mile to Wollongong Harbour.
The Wollongong CBD pop-up cycleway provides a link between Wollongong train station and Crown Street Mall to the Blue Mile.
Check out the Wollongong Cycling Guide and Map PDF, 12254.44 KB to plan your cycle route into the event.
