It’s official! Comic Gong is coming back for 2024

Grab your calendars and start planning your cosplay outfit, the date has been set for Comic Gong 2024!

Wollongong City Libraries’ renowned comic and pop culture festival is making a triumphant return to the classic festival format. On Saturday 11 May 2024, Comic Gong will take over the Wollongong CBD with cosplay, comics, gaming, and pop culture galore.

This is exciting news for Comic Gong fans who may have missed the original festival design this year. In 2023, Wollongong City Libraries had to make some tweaks to the program as works on the Illawarra Performing Arts Centre in the Arts Precinct, made it impossible to hold the event as per usual.

With the Arts Precinct ready to go, Wollongong City Libraries is pleased to announce that Comic Gong 2024 is officially back.

“Good news for everyone who knows and loves Comic Gong. Wollongong’s original comic and pop culture festival will be back on Saturday 11 May 2024,’ Wollongong City Lord Mayor Councillor Gordon Bradbery AM said.

“This free community-festival is an incredible event that brings people of all ages together to celebrate a shared love of comics and pop culture. Over the years, it’s really grown into something that has a bit of a local cult following.

“There are artists who hold stalls and workshops at the event almost every year. There are families and children who have grown up alongside Comic Gong and cosplayers who come every year to share in the fun.

“For now, save the date, Saturday 11 May 2024! We’ll share more information with you in the new year so you can get excited for Comic Gong 2024. Follow Wollongong City Libraries on Facebook as we’ll share the latest event updates there.”

There’s a lot of pre-work involved in getting the Gong’s greatest comic festival ready to go. That’s why the call is out now for artists, writers, and stallholders to submit an EOI to hold a stall at Comic Gong 2024.
