"My disability has never stopped me from being a worker, a mother, a daughter"
I work as a receptionist for the Flagstaff Group. In 2001 I had a bad asthma attack and ended up in hospital for a long time. My mum and dad were told
“put her in a nursing home and forget about her”. But eventually I learned to walk and talk again.
People don’t realise I have a disability because I don’t always use my walker. I once stumbled while out at a local club. The security guard said that he had been watching me and asked if I’d had too much to drink. I tried to explain but they ignored my explanation. I shouldn’t need to advertise my disability.
I love being able to get up and go to work. Work keeps my mind active.
Just treat me how you would like to be treated. If people see me struggling, I don’t mind people offering or asking me if I need help.
