Meet Christine. She’s a lifelong learner.
Christine (pictured on the right above) is 66 years old and runs a sewing group at Our Community Project in Port Kembla with her friends Eileen and Lisa.
The group started 10 years ago when someone donated a lot of old curtains to the community centre. They decided to make bags out of the material.
Christine’s sewing group has helped over 20 people learn to use sewing machines. One man came along because he wanted to learn how to darn his socks. He ended up coming every month and learned to hem his jeans, and even turned a pair of overalls into a jacket.
Christine is passionate about fixing broken things and reusing materials. “If it’s still useful why not repair it?” she says.
