We're planning a range of projects in the hills of Cringila which will turn the area into a new recreation park.
Council endorsed our Cringila Hills Master Plan PDF, 7300.88 KB in March 2020.
Individual projects we're working on to make the plan a reality are described below.
We've opened a series of mountain bike trails in the Cringila hills to suit riders with different skill levels, from beginner to intermediate and advanced.
Cringila Hills Recreation Park includes almost 12km of mountain bike trails, plus approximately 3.4km of shared-use and walking trails.
It's important that the community use only asphalt or concrete paths during or immediately after wet weather to reduce damage to the trails. If trails are damaged excessively, we may have to close them to be repaired. Please observe any park signage and check the Cringila Hills Mountain Bike Park page for the latest trail status.
We've built a new playground at Cringila Hills Recreation Park, which is accessible for children of all ages and abilities.
This playground includes a giant book that tells the local Aboriginal Dreaming story of Gudgad the Greedy Frog.
We've built a new asphalt car park for people visiting the children's playground, mountain bike and walking trails. This car park is also handy for people using the pump track and mountain bike skills playground.
Work on the asphalt pump track is now complete.
The pump track is approximately 225m long. This looped track has features including rollers, doubles, dragon backs and berms suitable for all types of standard bicycles, skateboards, scooters, roller skates and roller blades.
Riders are asked to please take care and follow track rules when using the pump track.
The pump track can be used in wet conditions, but we advise people to take extra care as the track may be slippery when wet.
The mountain bike skills playground opened in September 2022.
This is a zone for riders to learn bike handling skills before riding the main mountain bike trails.
It’s the perfect space for beginners and less-confident riders who want to improve their bike handling skills including balance, cornering, jumping and navigating small drops.
It's important that the community use only asphalt or concrete paths during or immediately after wet weather to reduce damage to the trails. If trails are damaged excessively, we may have to close them to be repaired. Please observe any park signage and check the Cringila Hills Mountain Bike Park page for the latest trail status.
We've started implementing the site Vegetation Management Plan (VMP) which will help us manage the reserve. This includes weed removal, establishment of asset protection zones, and planting.
This work will protect existing native plants and habitat, and reduce impacts from development and works in the area.
We've installed barriers at various locations around the edge of the site to try to stop illegal vehicles entering the reserve. This work focused on the area around Shearwater Drive and Lockwood Street.
Council will continue to monitor illegal vehicle entry to the site.
We're working to install new wayfinding signage to direct people from the Cringila train station to the new recreational hub in Lackawanna Street.
We'd like to thank everyone who shared their ideas and opinions to help us create the master plan for this park.
