Councillors' political donations

Under Section 328A of the Local Government Act, Councillors must declare any political donations by making a disclosure to the NSW Electoral Commission.

You can search the register of Political Donations and Gifts on the NSW Electoral Commission website.

Political donations or gifts and development

Under section 10.4 of the Environmental Planning and Assessment Act 1979, people who make planning or development related applications to Council must declare any reportable political donations or gifts made to any Councillors (including the Lord Mayor) or Council staff.

This also applies to people making a public submission (in objection or support) about a planning or development related application.

How to declare a political donation or gift

For all declarations, download the Political Donations and Gifts Disclosure Statement to Council  PDF, 426.17 KB

Return your completed form by:

  • Attaching it as part of the supporting documentation when you make a development or planning related application, or
  • Attaching it with your public submission to Council on a development or planning related application.

What happens after a declaration is made

If a political donation or gift has been declared, information will be included in Council's Development Application Register.
