Vera and Wilson Streets Helensburgh

Last update: March 2026

We’re working on plans to repair the significant road damage at Vera and Wilson streets, Helensburgh, that was caused by the April 2024 natural storm disaster.

Right now, we are finalising designs and approvals to fully restore Vera Street and start Stage 3 works.

The works are expected to be completed by late 2026, weather and conditions dependent.

We appreciate your patience and understanding as we continue to work through a complex project.

Project updates

We're currently finalising the detailed design and approvals to restore the road back to its original condition, to before the natural disaster.

We have been progressing through a range of complex issues that needed to to be investigated before the design can be completed which include:

  • obtaining concept design approval from the funding body,
  • liasing with the adjacent landowner Crown lands,
  • locating public utilities and ensuring their long term protection, and
  • completing geotechnical investigations and modelling.

We're aiming to complete construction by late 2026 (weather and other conditions dependent).

Impacted residents and community groups will be notified of the start of works.

We are currently working on the designs for Stage 3 works which includes investigations to permanently restore Vera Street.

Stage 3 works are expected to be completed by winter 2026, weather and conditions dependent.

The first phase of works to the road repairs is completed. One-way access is open to the train station carpark.

Sydney Water completed urgent works to the exposed pressurised sewer water main.

Since then, we took over the site to continue plans on road repairs and were investigating options on how we could reopen one lane for safe access.

During this time, we asked our community to please avoid the area, if possible, for their safety.

From April 6, the roads were closed with sections of the road surface washed away, and the adjoining embankments eroded.

To ensure the safety of our community, fencing was installed around the damaged road surface and put in place temporary traffic arrangements.
