Harry Graham Drive

Harry Graham Drive is an access road that links Mount Kembla and Mount Keira Road / Clive Bissell Drive.

Due to its steep location on the Illawarra escarpment, this road has a long history of rock fall, stability issues and erosion from heavy rain. Council has done work to upgrade, stabilise and repair this road on multiple occasions over many years.

Recent work on this road included stabilising a section of the road near Wollongong Motorcycle Club in 2022.

2025 works

Council is planning to begin the next phase of essential works to repair and stabilise Harry Graham Drive from July 2025. Our aim is to have the road reopened by summer 2025-2026 as long as weather conditions are good.

These works will focus on a section of Harry Graham Drive between Wollongong Motorcycle Club and Kembla Village.

What are we doing?

  • Road stabilisation works will include sheet piling, a concrete capping beam, new road pavement, and installing a traffic barrier on the outside of the embankment.
  • Three trees will need to be removed as part of these works. In line with Council's tree replacement policy, we will plant new native trees in another location to make up for the removal.

Traffic changes

  • To allow work to be done safely, there will be a full road closure in both directions from south of Wollongong Motorcycle Club to north of Kembla Village. There will be no access for vehicles, cyclists or pedestrians, including outside work hours and on weekends.
  • The road north of the work site to Morans Road will be open for resident access only during works.
  • Once works are completed, the road will reopen to two-way traffic.

See our project map PDF, 1723.9 KB for an overview of the location and road closure area.
