Damaged buildings or structures
If you have damaged structures on your property and are insured, check with your landlord (if appropriate) and insurance provider about support for clean-up.
Be sure also to take photos of any visible damage to your business premises (if it’s safe to do so). This will help you apply for financial assistance down the track.
What to do with your flood waste
- Contact Service NSW. or visit one of the Recovery Assistance Centres to find out if your business is eligible for financial support towards clean-up and removal of debris.
- Discuss commercial waste disposal options with your insurer.
- You can also visit the Wollongong Waste and Recovery Park (Whytes Gully) and dispose of flood-impacted contents. Hours have been extended at Whytes Gully to 6pm until Friday 12 April.
Asbestos safety
During any clean-up be mindful of asbestos. If the property was built before 1990, there’s a good chance it contains asbestos. While asbestos materials are less of a risk when wet, they’re still a risk.
Check the NSW EPA website for more details on how to safely dispose of asbestos material.
