In a new home, away from the 'rat-race' of Sydney, the owner of this business has found new confidence and a supportive community. Hear more of Maddy’s story below:

“While not a new business, in 2021 we found a brand-new home base - a boutique clinic in the lower end of Crown St Mall.

We’ve been fortunate with our loyal clientele and to meet new faces everyday; flourishing between lockdowns. We opened the doors only 5 weeks to the date before the 4 months of lockdown which was just utterly devastating emotionally and financially.

COVID-19 was not a big burden initially, as I was a new mum. It gave my family the opportunity to leave Sydney in 2020. Being from the South Coast originally, naturally our family and friends are here and it was so lovely to leave the rat-race and re-join the beautiful Illawarra community.

Whilst the lockdown seem never ending, it did give me the opportunity to work on the back of the business and network with other similar small businesses, all of which were in the same boat, struggling to get through emotionally, financially and see light at the end of the tunnel. I worked hard to utilise all available resources, digging deep to keep our spirits up and try and re-purpose the business to be able to have a beautiful new space to reopen when the lock down eventually ended.

It's still super early days given we have been closed for so long and even since reopening, it has still been incredibly difficult and unpredictable with COVID still so prevalent in the community, certainly a path we are learning day by day to navigate.

We've taken on some new staff, trying to get involved in the community activities and be a warm, welcoming and safe environment for our old and new clients. We’re looking forward to meeting more of the community into the future and are so thankful for its support so far.”
